Bilberries bring sharpness, which compliments the juniper keeping the gin character intact. Hawthorne berries bring background sweetness before bog myrtle adds a spicy aroma – it tastes both bitter and balsamic at the same time!
Whittaker’s Original Gin
Whittaker’s Original Gin, is a traditional smooth London dry gin produced at the Harewell House Farm in the heart of Nidderdale in North Yorkshire.
It is predominantly juniper, coriander and angelica root. Bilberries (formerly known as Whortleberries), Hawthorne berries that grow on the hardy trees and hedgerows throughout the Yorkshire countryside and finally, Bog Myrtle, which grows on the stunning Yorkshire Moors are added to the list of botanical.
Whittaker’s macerate the mix for 24 hours prior to distillation in their stills called Jezebel and Jezebel 2 (a combination of the family daughter’s names, Jessica and Isabella). Just before distilling, citrus and thyme are added to the mix. After distillation, it is then diluted using natural Harewell water source to bring the ABV to 42% and left to settle. It is then hand bottled, batch numbered and labelled producing a truly authentic handmade gin.
