Award Winner

Herno Old Tom

Winner of The Worlds Best Gin two years running (2017 & 2018) is no small achievement. Herno Old Tom also won Best Old Tom and Best Contemporary Gin. So it is safe to say that this is a very good gin!

Old Tom Gin (as a category) gets its name from the tom cat-shaped plaques outside London gin houses when gin was illegal. You would put a coin in the cat’s mouth and the bartender would dispense a shot of gin from the cat’s paw. This is also why Herno Old Tom has a cats face on the bottle!

Like all Herno gins, Old Tom is organic and contains eight botanicals: juniper, coriander, myrtle, cassia bark, black pepper, vanilla, cranberries and lemon peel. In Herno Old Tom Gin, however, extra myrtle has been added to give it a sweeter flavour which is what the old cat dispensed gins used to taste like. To further the sweetness, after distillation a touch of honey and sugar is added.
