Introducing Crafty Fox Gin and The Harrison Distillery

Crafty Fox Gin

We love local gins, so when Simon Harrison called us up and offered a sample of Crafty Fox Gin from Skelmanthorpe (15 mins away) we had no hesitation.

Simon visited our shop and brought with him a case of his brand new London Dry Gin. He didn’t need to try hard to sell, as it is lovely. Hand made and hand bottled, with the bottle number and batch number written on the label, each Crafty Fox Gin feels unique and special. The bottle and label itself are eye-catching, with an almost Game of Thrones-worthy fox on the front of a rounded square bottle.

On to the taste, we sampled Crafty Fox Gin with Simon and unlike many gins, there wasn’t any hint of a “burn” when drinking it. Simon explained he makes his gin as pure as possible, “if you get a gin that burns as it goes down that’s probably because they’re not using pure hearts – that’s the drinkable part from the distilling process.”

Creating Crafty Fox in 2 Months

Gin distilling was a hobby of Simon’s, so much so that he and wife, Laura, decided to make a gin for the guests at their wedding instead of traditional wedding favours. They were so popular that Simon applied for and received his distiller’s licence and finished working as an operations manager. 2 months on from their wedding, they are now supplying bars and restaurants all around Huddersfield, and with our help, are now listed in some of the top destinations locally.

Craft Fox Gin

Simon says that the demand is proving difficult to meet, “we are currently looking to buy a larger copper still and we are on the lookout for premises in the area in order to keep up with the continued demand for Crafty Fox.” With that in mind, we were hesitant to ask about future products and differentiated gins, but Simon is already in the process of making a flavoured gin. But it is early stages doors.

Why Crafty Fox?

Regarding the name, Simon explained that “Crafty Fox came about as we wanted an animal that we could make an image that involves a traditional alembic still, it was nearly called copper fox but we named the gin crafty as it’s made from scratch.”
