Dessert Wine

Dessert Wine is, as the name would clearly suggest, drunk with dessert! They are sweeter (and often stronger) wines that are ideally suited for sipping slowly after a meal.

A dessert wine is usually considered to be any sweet fortified wine, but specifically drunk with a meal – so sherry and port are not dessert wines as they are drunk as aperitifs or digestifs respectively.

The grapes are often left on the vine for longer to help create this sweeter flavour, this is known as late harvest.

Dessert wine is also typically drunk at Christmas and enjoyed with large family meals and rich desserts such as Christmas pudding.

Here at Taste Fine Wines, we stock dessert wines from the France, California and New Zealand, covering the dessert wine grapes of Sauternes, Muscat and Riesling.
